You won’t hear much from me over the next couple of weeks. Barely a peep, in fact. Why? Because we’re coming to the end of the fiscal year.

This is only the second year since Costa Rica changed to a fiscal year which is the same as the calendar year. So I’m busy making sure we’ve taken care of the books for the HOAs we manage.

Costa Rica has a special fascination with bureaucracy. The country is divided into 7 provinces, 82 cantons and 488 districts, with rules and regulations to comply with at every level. Not forgetting national laws, of course.

If you’re a member of one of “our” HOAs (Home Owner Associations) then you’ll have been contacted about the Annual Meeting. We’re racing to get them all completed before the end of December.

Yes, this is different to our Property management work, where we look after everything related to a single property on behalf of the owner. AN HOA manages the entire condo, on behalf of everybody.

Here in Costa Rica it makes a lot of sense to have an HOA so somebody (i.e., me and my team) can take care of all the paperwork on your behalf.

Leaving you free to enjoy your vacation time.
